Review of the Year 2008
As 2008 draws to an end I thought it would be a good time to do my last News/Reviews page of the year!
Compared to the last few years 2008 has been a bit of a disappointment some of the reasons being Credit Crunch, Smoking Ban and the general decline in live entertainment of the genre we are in. From monthly news updates we are down to quarterly.
But there were some highs in the year for the show!
The year started steadily enough and in April we had a great STARS "R" US Show in Derby and were completely sold out. In fact we could have doubled the attendance! A big thank you to Garry Slade and Rob McMillan for their contribution as Billy Fury and Rod Stewart respectively.
In the summer trips to the USA and Dubai were very welcome and exciting and did open a few doors but we would have swapped it for a proper summer season run! This was the first year we have not had one. Sign of the times! We did get the odd gig here and there at Pontins and Butlins etc, but no extended runs.
So as far back as May we could tell there was something in the economy that was not quite right.
Fortunately, the Social Clubs of the Midlands kept us ticking over, culminating with Rick winning The Birmigham Club Secretaries award for best Comedian. The Trophy is now in the office with the other awards, pride of place, next to the kettle and biscuits!
Another highlight of the summer which never was, was being billed with Hermans Hermits at Lincoln County Ground in front of 5000 people.
Also this year we introduced new characters, Phil Collins/Monkey, and Brains from Thunderbirds!
A parody of Amy Winehouse is now in rehearsal and will be launched before the end of the year.
The year will end at special Christmas day show in Prestatyn and New years eve in Bently Brooke near Ashbourne in Derbyshire.
The diary for next year is filling well even though the present climate is bad, so fingers crossed we might have turned the corner before the rest of the country in this recession.
Balti houses up and down the country, which helped us in our hour of need!
Let's hope 2009 is a good one!
More in the New Year!
